Who We Are
The Saginaw Valley High School Soccer Referee Association (SVHSSRA) is a registered, approved association of the Michigan High School Athletic Association. The membership of the SVHSSRA is comprised of MHSAA certified officials from the Great Lakes Bay Region and Mid-Michigan areas.
We serve over 40 high schools within Arenac, Bay, Clare, Gladwin, Gratiot, Huron, Isabella, Midland, Ogemaw, Saginaw and Tuscola Counties.

Game Assignments
To receive game assignments through the SVHSSRA, one must be a registered official through the MHSAA and be a member of the association. To join the MHSAA, go to www.mhsaa.com and visit their official’s page. To express interest in joining the SVHSSRA or to receive more information, please contact association president and interim assignor, Brad Barlog.
In addition to joining the MHSAA and membership to the association, SVHSSRA officials must be up to date with membership fees & dues payment. Officials need to use the ArbiterSports website, www.ArbiterSports.com, to obtain and accept game assignments. On the ArbiterSports website, an official has the responsibility to:
1) Maintain and update their schedule and calendar blocks regularly, to accurately reflect availability.
2) View and accept (or decline) game assignments promptly upon notification.
3) Honor your game assignments. (Note: The “accepted assignment” constitutes a contract between the official and the school and is subject to terms and penalties set by the MHSAA in the Officials Guidebook.)
4) Update his/her contact information, conflicts of interest, and travel limits as necessary.

TOURNAMENTS
Varsity
Center Referee pay for diagonal system (center referee + 2 assistants) is $1.45 per minute of play. Referee pay for varsity dual system (2 referees) is a minimum of $1.90 per minute per referee per game. (Minimum pay rate is equal to the standard game fee/80 minutes.)
Assistant Referee pay for diagonal system or JV Referee pay for dual system is a minimum of $1.20 per minute per referee per game. (Minimum pay rate is equal to $95/80 minutes.)
TEAM ASSIGNING FEE
The SVHSSRA assigning fee is $125.00 per team, per season or per tournament.
MHSAA Officials Guidebook statement for Contract Compensation (Page 12) Item 1. Officials who work alone or with an incomplete crew are entitled to the fee or an equal portion of the fee for which the absent official(s) is/are contracted.
MHSAA Officials Guidebook, Contracts, Contract Compensation (P12) 2. Contracts affected by acts of god shall be maintained according to this schedule:
a. Contests cancelled prior to the departure of the official for the contest shall present no financial obligation to either party.
b. Contests cancelled or postponed after the arrival of the official but prior to the beginning of the contest shall result in payment of one half the original contract.
Tournament Assignments
To become eligible for MHSAA Tournament assignments (District playoffs and beyond), an official must complete the following additional requirements:
1) Complete and pass the MHSAA online rules test.
2) Be a Member-In-Good-Standing with the SVHSSRA
3) Submit your match schedule and availability form to the MHSAA (for Regional, Semi-Final, and Final matches, form available on the MHSAA website).
